    Senior reviewers think they do not need a checklist. They are wrong. The point of a checklist is not to teach. It is to prevent the smart, experienced person from skipping the obvious step on the day they are tired.

    The Five Categories

    Section 1: Brand Safety

    • Tone matches the brand voice doc and the do/don't list
    • No banned words from the voice doc
    • No off-brand visual references (competitor brands, off-palette colors, off-style imagery)
    • No mention of competitor products without explicit strategic intent
    • No inflammatory political, religious, or social commentary unintended by the brand
    • No content that could be screenshotted and clipped out of context damagingly
    • No claims that could create regulatory liability (medical, financial, legal advice without disclaimer)
    • On-screen logo placement matches brand kit
    • Brand colors within tolerance (use a color picker if uncertain)
    • Tagline, if used, matches current approved version

    The "screenshot test" is the most useful single check here. Pause at any frame and ask: if a hostile account screenshotted this and posted it with no context, would it embarrass the brand? If yes, fix it before shipping.

    Section 2: Fact-Check

    • Every statistic has a source linked in the project doc
    • Every quoted person has been verified to have actually said the quote
    • Every named individual is spelled correctly and titled correctly
    • Every named organization is current (not acquired, not renamed, not defunct)
    • Every date is correct
    • Every dollar amount or unit of measurement is correct and in the right unit
    • Every claim about a product (yours or a competitor's) is current as of ship date
    • Every link works and goes where intended
    • Comparative claims ("the fastest," "the only," "the best") are defensible
    • Predictions and projections are framed as such, not stated as fact

    A useful rule: if a claim has a number in it, you owe a source. AI is very good at producing confident-sounding numbers that are almost right or completely invented. Treat every number as suspect until verified.

    Section 3: Hallucination Detection

    This section is the one most teams skip and the one with the highest blowup risk. AI in 2026 is dramatically better than it was in 2024, but it still hallucinates with confidence. Run every piece through these checks.

    • Every named person is real and is described accurately
    • Every cited study, paper, or article exists and says what the piece claims it says
    • Every product feature claimed actually exists in the current product
    • Every historical claim is accurate (dates, sequences of events, causation)
    • Every quoted statistic exists in the source it is attributed to
    • Every name of a city, country, region, or institution is real
    • Generated images do not show fabricated text on signs, books, or screens that reads as real
    • Generated video does not show fabricated logos, faces, or words that read as real
    • AI-generated voiceover does not mispronounce key proper nouns

    The single highest-yield hallucination check: pause the AI-generated video at every frame containing text. Is that text real or invented? Image and video models love inventing legible-looking text on signs, packages, screens, and books. About one in three generated frames containing text has a hallucination problem.     Section 4: Copyright Clearance

    • No recognizable copyrighted characters appear in any generated image or frame

    • Stock footage and stock images have current licenses

    • Output does not reproduce verbatim training data (run a similarity check on key passages)

    A practical rule for image and video generation in 2026: if you can name the source of the style, you probably should not use it commercially without licensing. Generic styles (cinematic, documentary, golden hour) are safe. Specific styles (a named director, a named photographer, a named studio) are not.

    Section 5: Accessibility

    The Seven Mistakes That Sink AI Content QA

    1. Treating QA as the operator's job. The person who generated the asset cannot objectively review it. Different humans, always.

    5 to 12 minutes for a short-form piece. 15 to 30 minutes for a long-form piece with multiple claims and many on-screen frames. If your reviewer is taking longer, the asset has too many issues and the operator needs feedback. If shorter, they are skipping items.

    Who should be the reviewer?

    Not the writer, not the operator. Ideally a dedicated QA seat. On smaller teams, the project owner or another producer. The role can rotate across team members but it cannot be the same person who created the asset.

    How do we handle disputes between operator and reviewer?

    Do we need legal review?
